Army Story

  • 2010 World Shooting Championships

    August 23, 2010

I was honored to represent the United States of America and the U.S. ARMY at this year’s largest international shooting event, the ISSF World Shooting Championships. I was joined by six other U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Soldiers from the International Rifle section. The Team competed in nine different events with distances ranging from 10 meters to 300 meters. The men’s 50 meter prone team continued to dominate world competitions by winning their second consecutive World Championship Team Gold. The Women’s 300 meter team also medaled, coming in second place in the women’s three position match. The Soldiers were joined by a very experienced gunsmith from the USAMU Custom Firearms Shop as well as the International Rifle section coach. Their dedication to excellence allows the Soldiers to have the best training and equipment in the world. Lessons learned by the USAMU Custom Firearms Shop through competitive shooting allow them to directly benefit the war fighter on the modern battlefield.
Through national and international competitions I have gained valuable knowledge that has helped me train Soldiers in Basic Rifle Marksmanship at the USAMU ranges at Fort Benning. Along with conducting BRM courses we conduct junior rifle clinics for kids throughout the country. The U.S. Army has given me a great opportunity to travel the world competing in high level competitions and the ability to connect with kids that could one day join us as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces.
