  • My Pops

For the longest Duration of my life, my only perspective on the military and how it is affiliated in everyday life, came from my father. As long as I can remember my father has always been Patriotic and militant. Aka Red White and Blue with, BDU or ACU color/patterns on EVERYTHING! Through my father's experience and pop culture I grew to learn a better understanding of how the military works, operates, and above all, how it has changed. Stories of just places my father has been, not always neccesarily in detail, amaze me, and urge me to want to see the world.  Other times its dicouraging to hear about stories involving injuries/casualties from media...»

  • The Beginning

    February 11, 2012

    By: Harrison Jenni

I am the son of soldier. My entire dad's side of the family has served in the military since the Revolutionary war. I have always been inspired by my dad, and soon I plan to follow in the footsteps of my family. I have given so much thought to this. Since my early childhood, I always thought it was so cool my dad was in the army. It wasn't until later that I could truly understand and appreciate what he did. The end of my highschool career is approaching quickly, and hopefully it will be the beginning of not only my college career, but my Army career.

  • The Story of 4 friends of the Vietnam War

    November 10, 2011

    By: Lynn Jackson

The four of pictured here are Martin B. Ryczkowski, Jim Sippey, Donald (Herky) Graham, and Tommy Goob.  They have all been lifelong friends.  All four were drafted the exact day, and went to boot camp together in Ft. Gordon, GA.  The picture is from graduation day.  They all went separate ways in Vietnam.  By the grace of God ALL four returned in 1967.  They are still friends to this day, and make a point to get together now and then!

My family has been in the military for generations. I have one family member on the wall in Washington, D.C. The two family members that inspired me to go into the military is my Dad and my Grandpa. My Dad was a tanker in the U.S. ARMY and my Grandpa was Field Artilary in the U.S. ARMY. I had asked my Dad and Grandpa about what it was like to be in the military. They said it was a life changing experiance. They told me that the military had many oppertunities to offer. i am trying to go in as a warrent officer to become a pilot. Flying has always been my dream. I was going to do JROTC in highschool all four years but the school got rid of the program...»

Joining the JROTC program was not a difficult decision for me. I have now been in the program for two years and hope to finish my high school career with a fourth year. I have found this to be very enjoyable and I would've regretted not taking it. My instructors are very nice and they make class fun and at the same time educational.

  • Army Physicals?

    September 22, 2010

    By: Esther Noh

For the past year, I have been contemplating joining the military as an Occupational Therapist. I have been wavering between the Navy and Army and couldn't really make my decision.  Sometimes, working with the recruiters can be difficult, and you hear a lot of rumors and warnings about people getting "tricked" into signing contracts,  giving up your rights/freedom and being swept away to boot camp.      I had the opportunity this past week to be invited to Fort Sam Houston to take my physical exam and tour Brooke Army Medical Center as well as the Center for the Intrepid.  Some of my enlisted...»

I'm 18 years old and graduating from High School. I'm currently talking to a recruiter. I know the Army is what I want. I can't wait to join! Its what I have wanted since I could talk. My daddy was in the Army... I think thats where I get all this from. I know when I join and get out of basic and AIT, I'm going AIRBORNE! Hopefully with the 82nd... But thats all for now.
