When I was fifteen years old, I was reunited with my friend from childhood. I was thrilled to see her and her brother Justin. I'd had a crush on him since I was eight years old. When I saw him I didn't know if his life had changed or anything, and it turns out it changed in a major way. His sister told me their brother was in Afghanistan. I had no idea he was in the US Army. Justin and I started talking, and he asked me to be his girlfriend. But then I found out in around five weeks later after school was out for the summer, he had to leave to Fort Benning, Georgia for basic training. He said he'd be gone for two and a half months, which was ten of...»

My husband, SSgt Thomas N Blades, received his orders for Vietnam the day after our son was born, we also had a daughter just under 4 yrs old. He came to the hospital that day unexpectedly, not knowing what my reaction would be regarding his orders. Next step would be coming home to Maryland, for we were stationed at Ft. Benning, GA at the time. Just before he was due to leave, my father passed away & he got an extension so he could be with me for the funeral. He left the end of January 1968. About 2 months or so I received a letter from him that he was in the hospital. He had been on a truck, going to help other men that had hit a land mine, when his truck...»

As a proud Army Spouse to an extremely hard-working Sr. NCO, it is time to start focusing on his transition out of the Army. It is truly a bittersweet time for him. He has had multiple deployments and many long hours wearing the uniform, but I think the most important thing is the relationships that he built through the years with his troops. Being a dual spouse, meaning, not only am I an Army Spouse, but I am an Army employee. Both of these require patience and support. The deployments are never easy to get used to, but we do it and we get through it. My career is in Civilian Personnel. Sometimes that is a thankless...»

I am keeping a blog of my journey into the Army Life, as a new Army wife. Enjoy! www.armywife.squarespace.com I started this Blog to kind of 'document' my husband's and my journey in this new life. I know that, over the years, we will likely forget exactly what it was like and how we truly felt, throughout all of the many experiences that we will have, to include Basic Training, AIT, our first duty station, deployments, and so on. To have it written down in this blog (or online journal) will make it possible for us to look back on everything, most likely with fondness. By sharing my blog, I have received several...»
