Good afternoon my name is SFC Jason Taylor, today I am attending the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Empowerment Tour here at San Francisco State college, San Francisco, CA. The reason why I am here today is to show the young African-American youth and youth in general that the Army is about building a stronger younger generation for tomorrow's leaders of the world. In a strangely warm winter day in Chicago I was given the opportunity to meet some great people at the USHLI. I was given a chance to speak to a lot of young man and women about the opportunities currently available in the US Army and Army Reserve. It means a lot to me to be able to motivate and inform our Latino community about these benefits, thanks USHLI.

I am the son of soldier. My entire dad's side of the family has served in the military since the Revolutionary war. I have always been inspired by my dad, and soon I plan to follow in the footsteps of my family. I have given so much thought to this. Since my early childhood, I always thought it was so cool my dad was in the army. It wasn't until later that I could truly understand and appreciate what he did. The end of my highschool career is approaching quickly, and hopefully it will be the beginning of not only my college career, but my Army career.

But after getting deployed to Afghanistan I believe that my training was rather lacked in categories that I'm currently assigned too. Ive been in Afghanistan for a little over a month now. All I can say is that I've been hopping around from one FOB to the next doing different missions what seems to...»
