Army Story

  • Army Strong...through blood

    October 4, 2010

My name is Luke Pace and I am unable to tel you how much the Army has changed my life. I grew up in a very rough part of town here in Dayton. In all honesty, I was destined for failure. My parents were not the role models I needed. My fragile mind was very vulnerable and susceptible to everything I was able to see, whether it be drug use, violence, or alcoholism.

However, the Army has always been in my life in some form. My role model was my first cousin, Shannon Hunter. He had grown up the same way I did, yet was able to change his life around by enlisting. Shannon was successful in the army as a SSG with 5th Special Forces Group, and now enjoys his civilian job of continuing the tradition of training the force. He taught me the Army Values and now I live them everyday.

Soon I will be an Officer in the Army Reserves. I will have a degree, a good job, and a set of morals and values that helped shape me and will help shape my family for generations to come. What can this be accredited to? Maybe school or perhaps a good foundation, but overall it came from the Army.  The Army saved Shannon, who was able to save me.  Now I get the opportunity to use my skills to help make the world a better place for someone else.
