Aug 30, 2010 11:16 PMHi Captain Afanador,
My question is I'm a 42 year old women who will be 43 in November. I have a BA in speech Pathology, a MA in Counseling Psychology, and working on my PsyD in Clinical Psychology. Im currently in my second year. I would like to join the Army, and have them pay for the remainder of my schooling. I understand I will have to give 3 years. That does not bother me. I've always wanted to be in the service. I understand I need a age waiver, as well as an moral waiver. I got into trouble when I was 22 years old. It was a felony, then reduced to a misdemeanor, then dropped and expunging of the record. I wanted to know how hard will it be for me to get into the service. I have contacted the Amedd office here in my area. One person says I may have a change, anther just say he doesn't think it wil happen, but he can get me in another way. I was wondering if you could give me some fedback.
Thank you

Aug 31, 2010 8:37 PMHi Kellis,
First of all congrats on going for your Psy.D. I love Army psychology and it has been the best decision I have ever made. Of course, as a fellow Psy.D. I'm a little bias. To work as an active duty Army psychologist you will need to graduate from an APA accredited program as well as an APA accredited internship. If you are currently in an APA accredited program then you are on the right track. If you are looking for a way to pay for your education while you are still in graduate school I would talk with your AMEDD recruiter about HPSP scholarships. My recommendation for you would be to move forward and put together a packet and see what your recruiter can do for you. I hope this gave you the answers you were looking for. If you have any other questions just ask. And Good luck on your studies (I know it can rough at times).

Aug 31, 2010 8:26 PMHey Henry,
I know of individuals who were not American citizens and were still able to join the US Army. To get more percise information on how the exact procedures you should contact your local Army recruiter. I hope I was able to point you in the right direction.
