Cal Poly ROTC Experience
October 4, 2010
My name is Alexis Howell and I am in Army ROTC at Cal Poly State University. I love ROTC because the program not only helps foster leadership skills, but also builds physical and mental strength. It also creates camaraderie and friendship that lasts a lifetime. In the past year I have lost over 30 pounds, made over 50 new friends, and increased my potential by 100 times all because I decided to stick with the program even though I wanted to quit after my first day of physical training. I also chose ROTC because it is amenable to my goals and desires for the future. When I graduate, I hope to commission as a Military Intelligence (MI) Officer in the Reserves. During the following three years, I plan to attend law school while serving part time in MI. Upon graduation from law school, I intend to serve as a JAG (Judge Advocate General) Corps Officer for the Reserves and to work full time as a district attorney. Although achieving my goals will take time and a lot of effort, I know that ROTC will not only be there to help me but will also give me the skills and motivation to stay one step ahead of the curve in every step of life.
