Hello, I'm currently a senior in high school thinking about joing the army. Up until recently i have been very obese and i didnt believe the army was an option until i began a diet program and lost 88 pounds. I now have so much energy and i am in the gym at least 5 days a week religously. I have the support from everyone in my family save for my father but even despite that i still want to join when i turn 18 in october. I have a general idea what i want to do for a job but im still trying to decide whether the army is the right decision.

Her is my before and after photo:

    Jared,

You've shown you have what it takes. Good luck. Remember the sacrifices you made to get where you are, and always drive on to the objective. Your Dad loves you, and he'll come around when he sees how much you love your country and want to serve in this Band of Brothers. Hooah!

Way to go on the weight loss. I think that alone proves you're army material. As for your dad, my mom was the same way. Im eighteen and didnt need her signature so i enlisted anyway. After I came back from meps, sworn in, she started to come around. now shes got the proud parent of a soldier sticker on her car and shes always telling ppl that her daughters in the army. So give your dad time. if hes anything like my mom he just cant stop picturing you as the little kid in diapers. And as for the army being the right decision thats totally up to you but I can tell you I couldnt be happier with my decision. But then again I havent gone to boot camp then :P

I think you should go for it! The Army is my choice after school lets out. I have been in JROTC my whole High School time. I would really like to give you kudos on how much weight you lost... Thats amazing!

    Give it a shot!!!

    Dear Jared,

I too was over weight when I was in HS, I lost the weight and was able to ship out after graduation, and from then on have not regretted the choice I made even 10+ years later, you obviously have the drive, self displine and fortitude that our nation needs in its Soldiers and with that kind of drive and motivation I can assure you that you will do great things and one day motivate others to do great things.
