Over the summer I had the opportunity to attend the fourth cycle of Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky. This is a month long basic army introduction training. Cadets who attend this school do not have two full years of ROTC to be able to transition to the upperclassmen level without being lost. So those wishing to join later in their college career can still join and become an officer. As a cadet at this school there are two sources of knowledge by which to obtain information, one would be the drill sgts and the other would be new lieutenants which were just commissioned. These two sources are the best that could have possibly been provided. We learned from 15 year enlisted veterans that know the Army in and out and the new officers who just went through the commissioning process who could answer any question we had about ROTC. Some of the larger scale things we did include marksmanship, high ropes course, repelling, IMT, and STX. I personally learned a lot from the people that were directly over me but some of what I learned came from the unexpected. For example I was on ammo detail and loaded magazines for zeroing and there were a large group of soldiers just talking about the Army right next to us. Small situations such as overhearing sidebar conversations and the stories they told gave me extra pieces of knowledge that I can now put to use back at my school.
