  • ROTC Scholarship

    September 30, 2010

I feel that having the privilege to attain an ROTC scholarship has been one that has proven to be more helpful than detrimental in my life. Entering college as a freshman I can honestly say I had no direction, and being miles away from home at eighteen to is a distraction all its own(I will not get into the details). ROTC was a way for me to stay focused; it helped me keep a level head and kept me on the right track academically and socially. While friends of mine were up partying and getting alcohol poisoning I was on my way to bed so I could make it to formation in the morning, and though it felt like a burden during the times it was happening I now know that it was more like a blessing in disguise. Throughout my years in this program I have proven to myself that I am stronger than what I perceive, and the program has helped me to attain a confidence and immeasurable work ethic that allows me to strive and persevere through hardship in order to attain my goals. Don’t get me wrong, ROTC is not for everyone, and if you don’t want to be in the program you won’t be. But for those who stick with it and actually want to feel as though they’ve accomplished something rather than being the typical mediocre six year student, then I do believe that ROTC is the right choice.
