Some of the greatest memories
June 3, 2010
I will never forget the day I was told that my AGR unit was going to be deployed in support of Bosnia. Wow I thought, this cant be good, but actually it was. Despite the fact I was leaving a pregnant wife behind, I was called upon to do a job. It was something that I knew was the right thing to do, and yes fear was ever so present. What the hell did I get myself into.
Part of the Ordnance Corps, I knew I was going to love my job. I have been into tools, mechanics, hot rods, tinkering with stuff ever since I was kid. That part I was fine with, leaving my wife behind for a year however I was not.
So off we went to our duty station in Hanau Germany. Our mission was to provide maintenance support to the units that we deemed "down range." So what was it like?
It was the greatest experience I had ever had. I increased my techncial skills, got to see Europe, worked in the motor pool, F&E shop, and my actual MOS was Utility Equipment Repair. We repaired refrigeration equipment used on vehicles with sensitive electronics, medical vehicles, and mobile units themselves that the troops take with them into theaters of operation.
It is because of the Army, that today I am a very strong person. I do not run when things get tough, I am part of an elite group of people called "US Veterans," thats good company to keep. I have Army pride, I have been awarded medals, hold my head high, and know at there is nothing that I cannot face.
Army history dates back to 1775 and the establishment of a Boston militia. I have been proud to serve, my time in has made me a better person all the way around, my views have matured, and I was part of an organization that values the idealisms of America. I am glad that I was able to contribute to that, and Army is my Alumn, my friends, my hereos, and some of the greatest people you will ever meet.
