Army Story

  • To be in life...

    August 1, 2010

Im a 15 year old girl from reading pennsylvania. People always ask me and kids are always talking about what they want to be in life.... I know I still have time to think, but im never quite sure what I want to be. As a kid, I always wanted to be a vet, I love animals and truthly, that would be a pretty cool job. But im not in love with the idea and that scares me. So when ever people ask, i answer vet. When ever I see on the news about the war, I feel like I want to help. Help my country. No one knows that I wanna be in the army, or if I ever mention it, I just laugh and say " so I can go to collage for free and help my parents" and I think people think that im just saying that, but truthfully, I do want to go and help my family, and also help myself. When I said that to my mom, she said no, that I couldnt because it would be to hard on her, but its not about her, its about me. My dad would probally agree with my decision. If you are reading this, you might think that im to young to think about this stuff. But I just wanted to tell someone.... but than also, im scared about the army. Im sure everyone is though.... When I think about it I dont know if it will set my life back. My parents say that collage is the best 4 years of your life. And I could miss it. Thank you, if your reading this.

Hi! Im a 17 yo guy from Costa Rica and even that there`s no army in this country I`ve always felt that my true wish is to be in combat, I think Im an US citizen born in Latin America because I feel some kind of love and respect to USA unlike other people here. I think that as you as me have the same spirit and vocation of being a US soldier to protect that beautiful and great country. I hope your dream become true and I will fight to reach mine.

    Hail USA!

Hello out there, My name is Isel, well I just love your post Sarah.I felt like it was me. I am also 17 almost 18, and I though about the ARMY many times. At the begining it scared me, because I am from Cuba and my mind was a litter bite confused about the way the teach me over there in my country, and the true I saw here. Everything for me was so hard, but never before I felt so excited when I saw those men in uniforms and come to my class and talked to me about the ARMY. Now I know many thing about it, and the only reazon is because if I am truely strong to join and become a combat medic or 68W, I will fit all my college expensive, and become part of one the greatest and most respetest forces on USA:The ARMY of Unites States of America.

Isel, Thanks so much for this comment! The last sentence you wrote gave me chills! I remember in 5th grade... My student teachers husband came and talked to us about the army, and I was just so infatuated with it. I sat there and listened and never wanted it to be over... All the other kids were just asking "Do you like shooting your gun" I personally think no one truly would want to shoot there gun... But anyway, thanks so much for the comment! It got me thinking a lot!

Sarah, was so nice dream with this, but today I know that my parent never will aloud me to become a combat medic. It was really a wishfull though, and in so way I whish become true, yet is for me almost imposible live with the refusal of my parent that I love so much. I told my mom one day about the idea of become a paramedic, on the college, otherwisw I could became a 68W, she didn't what I was talking about, but she worried a lot and told my dad. Soon after, my dad make me sat down and talk very seriouslly about it, he said he don't come to thid country to see her child become a toy of the ARMY. I explain my reazon, but he still stand in his ideas of what is the ARMY, here. He is afraid by me, and I know, but I don't know how explain him what great step I will be given upon many thing if I become part of the ARMY. Truely, I don't know what to do, the last thing I wish to do is doing it without their apprubal. Anyways, thanks for answer me!
