BOSTON!!

May 25, 2010

My first trip ever to Boston, MA!!!

This is a pretty cool deal for me. I will be going to and After Action Review (AAR) with the 18th ABN Corps G9, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Partners in Health Haiti, Global relief Technologies (GRT the data collection contractor) and several other institutions that were involved in the project that I was working in Haiti.

This AAR is really for MIT and not the Army, because they are trying to get better at data analysis for disaster relief along with GRT to develop better data collection methods in the aftermath of a disaster.

Additionally, GRT and MIT will probably be working with USAID which is in the process of taking up the data collection program with MIT and GRT. There is a bit of a gap from the first eight weeks that I managed and the time that USAID will take over, but it is nice to know that something I worked on for 14 weeks will have a productive life after me and the JTF in Haiti.

The 18th ABN Corps G9 came up with the plan, I managed it and so we were invited to the AAR. I am just excited to get to do something out of the ordinary again as a CA operator. Plus I get to go to Boston and see the team I worked with and see the MIT/LL facility (which is supposed to super high speed).

Short trip, only three days including travel, so sightseeing will be minimal, but I have a few hours after I land and a few after the AAR to maybe hit two or three things.

Anyone have any must see locations for a “power tourist”?

Expect some pictures from Boston and of the MIT / GRT crew next week.

Thanks for reading.
