About Me: I was born in Iowa City in 1977 and is a 1995 graduate of Iowa City High School. I received a B.A. (philosophy) from the University of Iowa in 1999, a J.D. from the University of Iowa in 2003, and a M.A. (philosophy) from the University of Iowa in 2004. During law school, I served as a law clerk to U.S. Senator Charles E. Grassley in Washington, D.C., served as a judicial intern to U.S. District Court Judge Ronald E. Longstaff in Des Moines, and wrote for the Iowa Law Review. My first job out of law school was as judicial law clerk to Minnesota District Court Judge Michael R. Savre. After my clerkship I entered the private practice of law in downtown Minneapolis, which focused exclusively upon civil litigation. I returned to Iowa City in 2008, where my practice has focused primarily upon family, criminal and municipal law. On July 18, 2011, I was directly commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the Iowa Army National Guard JAG Corps.
