ESSENCE Music Festival 2011 - Curtain Call
July 3, 2011
Today is the last day of the festival and it'is winding down nicely. We're at the SuperDone tonight about to go onstage in front of thousands of people for the Army's Moment during the concert where we will represent U.S. Army Cadet Command on stage with the Deputy Commanding General, General Barrye Price as he presents 2 checks totaling over 13 million dollars signifying the amount of ROTC Scholarships awarded to students attending HBCUs across the country.I worked the Army ROTC section of the Army exhibit all weekend and noted some of the recurring questions from family members and students about what it's like being a commissioned officer, how to get started in ROTC and how to apply for the ROTC Scholarship to name a few.The best resources out there for questions concerning Army ROTC are gals and guys like me, located in an ROTC office at a university nearest you. I highly suggest Students, parents, and Soldiers contact the particular school they intend on attending ROTC for unique opportunities on-campus. Finally, the Army's website, www.goarmy.com/rotc is a great starting place to explore officership and the various branches (officer jobs) available to Active Duty and Reserve/National Guard Commissioned Officers.Where else can you get quality LEADERSHIP training, a highly marketable skill set while still attending college? Name any other program out there that offers such a broad range of training and opportunities, where as soon as you graduate and earn a commission as a Second Lieutenant your instantly in positions of responsibility tasked with leading Soldiers and being accountable for sometimes millions of dollars worth of equipment. That's right, the U.S. Army!! So for those of you who are thinking about serving this great nation of ours in the military, come on and become a Symbol of Strength. Those of you currently serving or have served thank you for being Army Strong and have a wonderful 4th of July.
