On June 20th:

1924-Audie Murphy, recipient of the Medal of Honor and the United States' most decorated Soldier of World War II, is born in Kingston, Texas.

On June 21st:

1788-The United States Constitution comes into effect as New Hampshire becomes the ninth State to ratify the document.

On June 22nd:

1945-Erich Maria Remarque, author of All Quiet On the Western Front, is born in the German city of Osnabruck. 

On June 23rd:

1812-Marine Lieutenant John Heath becomes the first American casualty of the War of 1812.

On June 24th:

1861-Tennessee becomes the eleventh and final State to secede from the Union during the Civil War.

On June 25th:

1950-War breaks out on the Korean peninsula as communist forces from the north invade the south giving rise to the Korean War.

On June 26th:

1963-In a speech offered to express support for and solidarity with West Germany given at City Hall in West Berlin, Germany, President John F. Kennedy makes his famous declaration, "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a Berliner).
