On May 30th:

1958-With President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Vice President Richard M. Nixon looking on, unidentified Soldiers killed in World War II and the Korean War are buried at Arlington National Cemetery in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

On May 31st:

1819-American poet Walt Whitman is born. 

On June 1st:

1813-Navy Captain James Lawrence, Commander of the frigate Chesapeake, upon being mortally wounded utters the famous words which would become the Navy motto, "Don't give up the ship."

On June 2nd:

1995-Air Force Captain Scott F. O'Grady, flying his F-16C, is shot down by Bosnian Serbs while on a NATO patrol over northern Bosnia.  Captain O'Grady is rescued six days later.

On June 3rd:

1965-Astronaut Ed White (Lieutenant Colonel, US Air Force) becomes the first American to walk in space during the flight of Gemini 4.

On June 4th:

1944-The U.S. Fifth Army begins the liberation of Rome during the Second World War.

On June 5th:

2004-President Ronald Reagan, fortieth President of the United States, dies in Los Angeles at the age of 93.
