Epic Re-Deployment Travel

July 19, 2010

Made it back to the states yesterday!!!  Only the Army would have us arrive 36 hours early for the plane ride back and then locked down in a fenced in area 13 hours prior to takeoff.  but, there is a lot of administration to take care off and customs and other things to go through.  Exhausted but glad to be back and looking forward to seeing family and friends soon!  At Ft.. Benning this week outprocessing.

I'm really interested in becoming a MP for the army, but my mother is really worried about me joining because she dosent want me to die. I was wondering but what are the chances of me not coming back home?

Alex, none of us who join the military do the numbers of liklihood of being killed in combat. We serve because wearing the uniform and protecting America from any other American skyscrapers falling to the earth in flames is worth any price we can pay. It is about Honor...and Duty...and Country. If you don't feel those things deeply in your soul, then don't sign up. If you do feel them profoundly, the come join your family of warriors out here in the darkness, defending this God-blessed land of Freedom half way around the world. Train hard, and fight hard, and come home with honor.

If you need some numbers for statistical data, the internet has all the data you need. There are about 94,000 US Soldiers in Afghanistan now, and about 350,000 American Soldiers have been there since 2001. A total of 1190 have lost their lives in Afghanistan's warfare over the past 9 years. You can tell your mother that there is almost a 100% chance you will be coming home alive if you are honored to serve in combat operations there as an MP. But all of us knowingly risk our lives when we sign up to be a Soldier, and if you too have that passion, let go of the data and come stand with us. There are some things worth protecting with our lives no matter the odds against us. Lt. Col. Andre Dean, Infantry
