Kuwait National Guard soccer

March 2, 2010

I had the chance to play soccer last night. It was interesting to play on a mix of sand/dirt/rocks. I had a bulge in my sock afterwards and realized it was actually sand ? We have some good players on the Camp team and even one player from the All-Army team that I played with at All-Army in 2008. We have a couple games coming up against the Kuwait National Guard and military. Several of their players are national team players so it will be quite a test and unique experience. I hope to post some photos later this week.

Work is busy and hectic. I don’t want to write too many specifics due to operational security. We are continuing to work the Iraq draw-down and surge of forces into Afghanistan. Some equipment from Iraq will go to Afghanistan through a surface route. We are looking at the feasibility, efficiency, and geo-political considerations of utilizing multiple airports, seaports, and roads/trains (what we call GLOC – ground lines of communication) into and out of Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to Iraq and Afghanistan, neighbor regions such as Central Asia will hopefully be able to benefit from the logistics increase.

Uzbekistan is building a rail system that will be able to access Afghanistan. Exciting stuff – hopefully I will be able to observe at some point later in my tour.

HOOAH and out for now!

Update:

It looks like I will be in the position here in Kuwait for 90 days with the occasional trip around the neighboring regions. After 90 days, the plan is to put me forward as an LNO (liaison officer) in Baghdad or Kabul. I am excited about the opportunity here and after the 90 day period. The time is going by quick and I’m sure it will be quite an experience!

Mine resistant vehicles discharged from a vessel in Kuwait and will be moved forwarf to Iraq and Afghanistan by

various transportation methods and routes.
