Well, I am now in San Antonio, TX at my first event of 2011. This happens to, more than likely, be my last event as a Drill Sergeant Exhibitor. The event is the U.S. Army All American Bowl. The Army is truly here in full force. In my time in this program I have seen almost every asset possessed by USAREC and Accessions. This is the first time I have seen almost all of them at one location. I must say that it's pretty impressive. There is something...read more

It's been quite a couple of weeks for me doing the job of a Drill Sergeant Exhibitor. I left home two weeks ago to do a Future Soldier training event in Phoenix, Arizona. I wasn't too thrilled about going to Phoenix, but it ended up working out well. I had the opportunity to talk to fifty some Future Soldiers and their recruiters, answering some questions and holding a drill and ceremony competition. The reward for the winner of the competition was a high five...read more

  • FFA to NHRA

Well it's been a whirlwind of activity for the last couple of weeks for me. I spent a week in Indianapolis at the Future Farmers of America convention and went right into the NHRA race in Las Vegas the following week. FFA was fun, but very busy. Some 55,000 members were in attendance at the convention and, honestly, it was a little overwhelming. Significantly different numbers from what Drill Sergeants are used to dealing with, being that a basic training...read more

  • Denver; I kinda want to move here now

I had the priveledge of spending four days in Denver, Colorado for the last four days. I absolutely love it here. I was in town to spend some time training Future Soldiers and give them some insight on modern basic training. I was able to tell them some of what to expect on the first step to becoming a Soldier, and to put a little fear in them. That's my job. Denver is a great city and I was able to spend some time with Future Soldiers, as well as future...read more

My time at the Dallas NHRA race culminated yesterday rather nicely with a Tony Schumacher win in the Army Top Fuel Dragster. It was an exhilerating three days of racing in Ennis, TX at the Texas Motorplex. As usual the Army was out in full force with the Strength in Action Zone, and the YES program on Friday morning. I had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of young adults about the Army, racing, and many other topics. I had the unique experience of spending some...read more

It's been a big week leading up to this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's NHRA races in Ennis, TX. I had the priveledge of visiting Axtell High School in Axtell, TX and BISD Carreer and Tech School in North Richland Hills, TX. I attended these schools with Nicolas Gaines, a team member on Tony Schumacher's team. Tony is the driver for the Army sponsored NHRA car, and has 7 championships under his belt. Axtell was a fun experience for me, due to the fact...read more

  • From Diyala to Downtown. A dog's tale (no pun intended).

It was a cold, early, miserable morning after a night of 50% security in the small villiage of Barwana, just west of Muqdadiya, in Eastern Iraq. The members of my platoon were conducting another patrol after a mind numbing three days of raids and sleepless, cold nights. After slugging around in the mud of the completely underdeveloped villiage, I, as well as some other scouts from the Recon Platoon, saw the puppy. He couldn't have been more than ten pounds and...read more

  • Cleveland Air to Big D Ground

Well, my time in Cleveland has come to an end. I think the air show was successful from all angles, and Drill Sergeant Semsick and I spoke with quite a few young people and their parents. I think I even convinced a couple of prospective Soldiers of the merits of being an Infantryman as opposed to the jobs that they were considering. My work here is done. The Army was definitely out in full force at the show with numerous activities in the area to include a rock...read more

Well, I'm finally on my way to the Cleveland Airshow for the first of many visits to local and national events. After powering through airport delays and less than stellar weather I'm hopeful for a good event. Myself and Drill Sergeant Semsick will be present at the show from Saturday 4 September through Monday 6 September. If you're interested or want some honest, no holds barred info on the modern Army, come by and see us. If you come to the army...read more

This is truly the new Army. Social Media. That's the new name of the game. Sometimes the Army is a little reactive, but all in all it has truly entered the twenty-first century. This is the first of many blogs from me. I'm a Drill Sergeant, but one of the few lucky enough to have been selected to be an exhibitor. Realistically, how great of a job is it to simply travel around and tell your story? First stop, Cleveland Air Show. September...read more
