3.838 Seconds at 320.43 MPH for the win

September 27, 2010

My time at the Dallas NHRA race culminated yesterday rather nicely with a Tony Schumacher win in the Army Top Fuel Dragster.  It was an exhilerating three days of racing in Ennis, TX at the Texas Motorplex.  As usual the Army was out in full force with the Strength in Action Zone, and the YES program on Friday morning.  I had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of young adults about the Army, racing, and many other topics.  I had the unique experience of spending some time with Tony Schumacher as well.  He and his team epitomize teamwork.  I watched his crew completely tear down, and subsequently rebuild, his entire 8,000 horsepower engine numerous times.  They completed this feat in less than 35 minutes each time.  It was a truly amazing experience and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of the NHRA races two more times in Las Vegas and then Pomona.  Tony may not be the points leader, but dont count him out yet.  He could still bring home the national championship if he continues to win.  That would make his eighth all time championship.  That's pretty impressive in anyone's book.

I'll be spending the next five days in and around Tyler, TX speaking at some high schools in the area.  I'm looking forward to that, as usual.  There is nothing that I enjoy more than providing some insight into Army life for youngsters that may have never been exposed to Soldiers or the Army.
