    Yesterday we heard from a panel of people related to JROTC. JROTC provides leadership opportunities for their cadets and holds them accountable to the unit. One way they instill leadership is having sophmores teach JROTC skills to freshmen, etc., just like Wes Moore said to do.   • Learning about Mentorship from Wes Moore at Army Education Conference

    Wes Moore, Army veteran and published author, spoke to the conference attendees yesterday afternoon. He said that upon his return from military service in Afghanistan a group of middle and high school teachers thanked him for his service. When he found out they were teachers, he thanked them for their service. He said to the educators present at our conference, "It is as important that you be successful at what you do, as military members be successful at what they do."...read more

    Here at Leavenworth, what they call the intellectual hub of the Army, we have heard from both speakers this morning about the importance of diversity. Army has the only 4-star female General Officer, GEN Ann Dunwoody, CDR or Army Materiel Command. In addition to race, ethnic and gender diversity, they also seek linguistic and cultural diversity (many enlisted members and officers come to the Army speaking additional languages and cultural expertise).   • Army Education Conference: Networking, Mentoring and Schools

    Last night John Myers asked us to network, that the most important part of the conference was interacting with the educators, learning from each other and building relationships. I have had an opportunity discuss what we're learning with a diverse group of attendees.
