Fall Training

November 1, 2010

Each semester our ROTC department conducts FTX to better prepare cadets for time in the field.  This is a great chance for cadets of all years and experience levels to get a lot of new training.  Over a three day period, we had the opportunity to participate in cultural awareness and rules of engagement classes, building hooches to sleep under, leading and taking part in 4 STX lanes, and day and night land navigation.  For the MSIV class, FTX is the final result of months of planning and the chance to take an instructor and evaluator role in the battalion.  The MSIII class gets a lot of practice for LDAC, assuming garrison positions for the weekend and taking the roles of squad and teams leaders for STX lanes.  MSIs and IIs have the chance to shadow older cadets and learn from them, while getting the foundations of skills like land navigation.  Our fall training was the perfect setting to apply the tactics and skills we've been learning throughout the semester in classes and labs.
