Boston Scientific-Week 2
July 28, 2010
This summer I was given the amazing opportunity to be an intern in the sales department at Boston Scientific, a Fortune 500 company that produces medical devices. Along with fellow cadets Nick Qiu and Carlton Shelley, we were asked to help Boston Scientific with their educational initiative. After one whole week of sitting in on meetings and classroom sessions to really get to know the company and its product, we finally began our work. Our final production was to be a paper and a powerpoint presentation that helped the Close the Gap team expand their social media. Close the Gap was a brainchild of the diversity branch at Boston Scientific. Its goals were to help minorities (specifically African Americans, Latinos, women, and youth athletes) realize how improved cardiovascular healthcare had become.
Working on our own schedules, Carlton, Nick and I were able to finish our project. The majority of which consisted of internet searching and combining ideas. Not only was the collaboration between between the three of us extremely helpful, but we also received input from others. Our main supervisor was able to help throw out ideas to us as well as other gentlemen who would listen to our ideas and offer their input. The difference of background and age groups from all the people that helped us on the project truly helped us when it came to looking at diversification.
Not only did I learn a lot about cardiovascular medical devices, but I also learned about the inner workings of this company. It was awesome getting to work with such a great group of people. Everybody was so willing to help and teach us something new. Hopefully we can return the favor and give Close the Gap some truly great suggestions to improve their campaign.
