Preparing for Graduation!
May 19, 2010
Wednesday, May 18 brought lots of work at the Visitors Center. The visitors center is located just yards from the West Point Museum, and is the starting point for tours and currently houses five exhibits and a movie about USMA life. As wonderful as it is, my job is to make it better by renovating a 15’x15’ blank exhibit space to “Tell the Story” of academics at West Point.
This is no easy task, however.
Through this, I am learning how different offices of USMA work together to accomplish a common goal: supporting cadets. I work with the admissions office and the visual services department to create the theme for the space. They are always so helpful.
My plan for the display focuses on cadets applying what they have learned in the classroom by using what they are taught in real life projects like the Liberty Lifesaver and the EECS Robot.
Thursday included lots of preparations for graduation, including the Superintendents review and meeting with the White House Advance Team (again!). Graduation happens every year, so I thought that it wouldn’t need as much planning as it does… But, holy smokes, it does! We had to check positioning of the press platforms, the heights of the camera stands… Everything!
