I just finished up a grueling 2 days of testing!  Yesterday was our Mock Oral Boards.  What this consists of is 4 hours of intense one on one questioning from mentors.  There are 8 30 minute blocks, for 4 hours total.  During these 30 minute blocks, you spend time with a mentor in each specialty, and they ask you questions just on their specialty.  After 30 minutes, you switch and go to the next specialty.

Today we had a written test.  It encompassed all disciplines as well, and usually takes around 4 hours to complete.  Then in the afternoon we completed what is called a "write for life."  During this, you have a case where you are expected to completely treatment plan a patient, and give a justification for every single thing you do. You literally have to "write for your life" to get it completed in the 4 hour timeline!

We do 4 of these events during the residency to get us ready for the actual boards after we graduate.  It is a grueling process, but a great learning and preparation tool for the future!

I had a great first week and a half in the Bravo program.  Already have a ton of work to do and already learned more than I could have imagined in such a short time!  We have a GREAT staff of mentors here at Bragg and I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of the course.  I realize there is going to be an overwhelming amount of info and frustration at times.  However, I know I am going to learn so much over the next 2 years.

All other dentists out there...you really need to check this out!

I started my 2 ytear Comprehensive Dentistry (63B) program yesterday!  I have been putting off my specialty for some time now so that I could deploy with the 82nd, but now it is time to move on and "get serious."  We have some great mentors here at Fort. Bragg and I am eagerly anticipating all of the new information I will obtain over the next 2 years.  This will help me tremendously in my dental profession and my military profession.

We have 7 residents total in our class and everyone seems to be really into the program.  Even though we have a 4 day this weekened, the majority of it will be spent reading our first assignments and preparing for the next couple of weeks.  You never want to get behind!
