AIAD to New York City

September 10, 2011

This summer I had the privilege of spending four weeks in the heart of New York City. The location was not too far from World Trade Center. Fortunately, navigating through the subway system is not a difficult thing for me because I live in Queens, NY. I was also lucky because I only interned for three days out of the week, so I was able to commute back home to spend time with my family. I was an intern for a non profit organization that advocates for non violence in the military. Service Women's Action Network (SWAN) fights against legal and moral issues pertaining to women who have experienced sexual trauma in the military. The program that this organization has in place is phenomenal. SWAN has worked diligently and continues to do so in supporting military rape litigations, advocating for bills to address military sexual violence, and defending equality. I loved being around the warm individuals at SWAN. It was a great experience.
