BG William “Little Billy” Mahone – Hero of the Battle of the Crater

Day 9
Today started early at the Medical Facility on Post. Everyone needed to get their lab work, immunizations, DNA, HIV, and vision work completed. The staff had a good system working and most of the class was completed well before lunchtime. After completing Medical, class members went about securing whatever packing list items they needed for tomorrow’s inventory inspection.
The highlight of the day was OPD, or a “staff ride”. In this instance, a class member took the interest and initiative to lead the class and cadre on an educational trip to the Petersburg National Battlefield. Let me just give a shout out to the well informed and knowledgeable class member who led our OPD today.
Class members had quite a few questions during the OPD and the class member had a ton of information to impart. For those who haven’t participated in or led an OPD, this one was very good. We can all hope when the time comes for us to lead OPD that we are prepared and knowledgeable as our class member was.
Tomorrow is another early day for Dental and uniform inventory. We are steadily working towards our transition to Charlottesville on Friday. Class leadership has already begun to push out information about the transition.
As I noted before our time in the field at Ft. Lee is complete. The work isn’t over yet, as the Army Physical Fitness Test, as well as a full day of briefings remains, but class members are looking forward with some excitement to engaging in our next training phase.
