And My Football Hero is...

January 6, 2010

Yesterday was pretty uneventful. I arrived at the San Antonio airport without too much incident... other than the headache from hell, there was little complain about. OH wait. The weather. The cold must have followed me from DC because it definitely is not as warm outside as I'd hoped it would be.

Last night, my sister and I took the trolley to Mi Tierra, a local Tex-Mex restaurant that seemingly everyone we met recommended to us. We love La Margarita but since they're both owned by the same families, we decided to try the new one out. We ate far more than we should have but believe me when I say, I have yet to have Mexican food in the DC Metro, as good as the food in San Antonio. (Sorry DC!)

After dinner, we decided to walk off the food we ate. Downtown San Antonio is an interesting place, even on a weeknight. We got home after nine o'clock and at about 11:00 PM, I decided to try and get some sleep. I think I managed to fall asleep around 1:00 AM. I was too excited about the coming events! When I finally did manage to get to sleep, I woke up at 3:00 AM and 4:30AM, worried that I'd be late to the first briefing.

So far today, we've received a few different briefings on how to talk to the media and more details about the schedule. We also got assigned our football players. My player is J.R. "Ego" Ferguson, #53, from Virginia. He's a Strongside Defensive End from Chatham, Virginia, and wow can this guy talk! He's comfortable with the camera and I have no doubt, he's going to be awesome to hang with. Very much looking forward to watching this young man as he navigates college ball. I have a feeling I'm going to be watching a lot more college football games after this week!

We'll be heading out to meet our players this evening and I'm looking forward to watching them compete in the push-ups/sit-ups and eating competitions. :) I'll be cheering for the East Team because that's the team Ego's on but I have a lot of love for the West Team as well because my Army Reserve unit is in Phoenix, Arizona.

-- Just now got orders for the Basic Non-Commissioned Officers' Course - Phase II from my Reserve unit. This is one in a series of courses that enlisted soldiers complete to advance in both their ranks and career fields. After this course and with the proper qualifiers, I'll be able to put in a promotion packet to become a Sergeant First Class. Looks like I'll be going to that school shortly after I head home from San Antonio.

I'll update later on the events from this evening, for now, I need to get to work on getting prepared for my next Army Reserve assignment...

Stay tuned for more updates and don't forget to watch the game on Saturday, January 9th at 12:00 Noon EST on NBC!

Army Strong!
