JA Poem #4
September 2, 2009
Welcome to all who have anxiously awaited the next Army Strong Stories blog of Chief K. The Jazz Ambassadors were performing in Sarasota, Florida on 13 April 2008 when I wrote the following poem. For comic purposes, I referred to myself in the third person. The characterization of my lack of useful function is, of course, mostly true. The skills and talents of the amazing and dedicated NCO's in the band are the reason to come see the Jazz Ambassadors. If we're playing anywhere near you, you owe it to yourself to see them. Check out www.armyfieldband.com to find out where we'll be.
Ambassadors: please come see them
In palace or gymnasium
In concert hall or even on the beach
Jazz music that they play so well
It's obvious; it's plain to tell
The heights of the musicianship they reach
Their leader, though he cannot play
He stands beside them anyway
He bows; he craves the audience acclaim
He seems to have no purpose here
Just draws a paycheck; and I fear
That next show he will be here, just the same
