Go Signal!
February 7, 2009
One of the most exciting branches in the Army is Signal or communications; here is why. I didn't choose Signal, it choose me. As a child, I took apart everything that was mechanical or electronic; parents hated it and at times I put those items back together without all of the parts but everything still worked. Not knowing that my early years were just a training ground for my years as a Soldier. If you like problem solving, people and electronics, and then putting all of these pieces together to form a network to enable leaders to make decisions, then the branch (Enlisted, Warrant Officer and Officer). It is the most amazing feeling to be out in the middle of a place with out any power or any traditional communications means and install, operate, maintain and protect a fully operational communications network similar to bringing AT&T out of your pocket. The technology would blow you away but individually the systems have no meaning but connected they form synergy (greater than the sum of the parts). I have gained an appreciate of how important it is to stay connected as a Soldier both in combat and peace time. People want to be connected and Signal provides networking on multiple diverse levels. GO SIGNAL!
