OCS, here I come!

April 17, 2012 | Jaquelin Babcock

I wrote here a few months ago, sharing my story a bit as a civilian putting together my OCS packet as a college-op. Well, it is my pleasure to say I made it! And if anyone reads this, who read any of my previous entries, I thank you dearly for your support and kind words!

By making this blog, I hope to be able to inspire future cadets or anyone looking into the college-op program. For now I suppose I won't have too much to say. But once I finish BCT, OCS, BOLC II and all of the other required courses, I will be a regular blogger!

I can only tell you about my* experience. Everyone's, I assume, is different. I know by reading other people's blogs, it really helped me in the process. There is so much information on the internet, you're never 100% sure what is updated, who is right, wrong, official, unofficial. Reading about other people's different experiences helped me get a better feel of what really was ahead of me, not just for arriving at OCS but the waiting process (which is probably the most challenging part of the entire packet, and yet has nothing to do with it at the same time), "what's next", how long you have to sign your contract, etc. All in all, when you first get that e-mail/phone call from your recruiter, it's like the world stops for a quick second. But then everything happens really quick. Contract signing, ship dates, random people contactnig you that you don't even know haha. It's pretty exciting! You've officially begun a new chapter in your life. And I know for a fact, this is one I am looking forward to.

So for now, I will leave you all with that! Again, thank you to those of you who gave me some good advice, words of encouragement, and personal experience pointers.

bis später!

Akonto! That's my whole goal with armystrongstories and it seems like I'm already accomplishing it by reading your comment. Thank you so much for reading! There will be more. If you have any questions about the process, please don't hesitate!
