FTX Weekend

October 12, 2010

This past weekend I was able to spend my fall break out at camp butner, while my classmates enjoyed their fall break. Like any college student I was slightly upseet that i was going to be out in the field instead of visiting my family, but it was worht it in the end. The raining we received out there was educational and helpful. We strarted with shooting at the range using M16s. It was such a different feeling firing at the range vs. EST. It was such a great feeling being able to qualify and practice. From there we moved on to day land nav and night land nav. Which of all things is my least favorite. Wandering around in the forest in the pitch black night reminds me a little too much of a scary movie. We did our land nav practice at NC state's land nav site, Shenck forest. Day 2 we worked on STX lanes being squad leaders and team leaders as MS III. That night we had a fun relay race using the skills they had taught us on hoe to carry a casuality different ways. Finally day 3 we had our ruck march. Although it was only 3 miles, it was all up/down hill on rocky ground. Our platoon pushed it hard and did a great job, ending up in second place. It was a great bonding experience for the battalion and our PMS really emphasized and summed it all up "togetherness."
