In class today we discussed forced hydration and heat casualities. I thought it was important to identify for everyone the key highlights. Although staying hydrated does include drinking lots of water, there is a limit on how much you should have. If you go over 12 quarts a day you are increasing your risk for water intoxication. Besides just water everyone needs to be eating as well. The body needs sodium, now an excess of sodium isn't good either. Everything revolves around balance. The difficult part is if someone starts to feel the symptoms of being a heat casuality they will probably experience nausea, cramps, or diarrhea. In this case they won't want to eat anything. This is why it is important to eat and drink water before the signs and symptoms appear, and someone becomes a heat casuality patient.
