motivating on a ruck march
February 28, 2011
I am platoon SGT of alpha 1 in our ROTC program. Although I have been PSG for two months now, this weekend I really felt like we came together. The final event of our spring FTX was the ruck march. They extended it from 2.7 to 4.4 miles of rocky up and down road. There are all different skill levels and strengths in ruck marching. Our weaker ruckers pushed themselves to their limit. When they could no longer keep pace other cadets stepped in. The other cadets helped motivate them by dragging the weaker ones. The weaker cadets grabbed the ruck of the person in front of them and it helped them keep pace. Through out the entire ruck march I cheered on the platoon. My CO was up front with me, setting pace and pushing everyone's limits. Although it was physically demanding and mentally exhausting we ended up completing the 4.4 ruck with the fastest time. It proves that with a motivating leader, cadets willing to push themselves, and a plan obstacles can be overcome.
