What its like to be a 19 kilo

July 14, 2010

Well i recently completed my training to become a 19 kilo M1A1 crewman and let me tell you theres nothing better than being on a tank. The best way to describe a tank is a killing machine on tracks its a complete beast. You havent lived till youve been inside a tank fireing the main gun and watching the breach block come flying back at you in the loaders hole. Driveing a tank is alot like driveing a ship on dirt with a motorcycle t bar as your control. The day you get to go to the mud course is the best. Your going through like 5 foot deep holes of rutted out mud and clay. Nothing beats the tc screaming in your cvc because you have no idea what your doing wrong but he does even if its the most minute thing. Shooting the 240b and coax is pretty fun too nothing beats putting some 7.62 ammo down range but nothing compares to the 120 mm cannon its the mecca of all weapons. The 1st time you see a tank send a heat round downrange you'll stare in amazement as each tanks sends round after round downrange. All i can say is 19 kilos lead the way while the others stay back and pray. HOOAH proud tanker here c-co 2-81 2nd plt deathriders.

I enlisted 19K over the summer and i am leaving for Ft. Benning March 5, 2012 as a PFC. I understand that the army will send me where i am needed, but i just wanted to know what options i may have for when i am stationed with my unit. I am hoping to be with the 1st cavalry division at Ft. Hood so im curious to ask what are my chances that ill be stationed there? Also what are the odds ill actually be in the m1a1 or m1a2 Abrams and not in a stryker unit? either way im still fortunate and thankful but just curious.
