Redo Veterans Day And Health Care Post
November 19, 2010
Many of people complained to not be able to read my blog and believe it or not... One person was disappointed! So I will try again.
As the day trails off and I have read many text, Facebook post and answered calls on Veterans Day, I am reminded of one thing: We are still loved. In recruiting we often forget to feel like a Veteran. Sometimes we think being behind the desk we don't deserve them but today I was reminded that we are thought of and appreciated.
At 0230 I received a small paragraph from someone I have not spoken to since high school thanking me for my service. It was surprising and reassuring that people don't forget the sacrifices we have made. I received so many thank you's today and it is a great feeling.
In recruiting there are many Soldiers who have not had the opportunity to deploy and today I think of them. I have never heard any of them say, "I would never!" Most are disappointed and relish the idea and I fear some are angry with themselves for never deploying. I would like to remind them and others who think this way that Recruiting is one of the most difficult jobs in the Army and it is often a thankless job. It was not long ago we worked so much that we seen our families as little as deployed soldiers. Some of my best leaders have been non-deployed Soldiers and the best 1SG I have had since entering USAREC. I thank them and remind them that they make a huge difference and it means just as much as deploying.
On a different note. I visited Urgent Care today for my son for the second time this month for busting his head. He also busted his head earlier in the month which resulted in stitches. It is times like this when I find myself so thankful for the Army benefits. I have never had to hesitate taking myself or my family to the doctors in fear of mounting unpaid medical bills. Of all the benefits we receive this is the benefit that gets the least attention but deserves the most.
I have a friend in the Army now who had a child that was not born in perfect condition. He spent months in the hospital and his incredible parents had heavy hearts everyday. This NCO "soldiered" on doing his job but was able to attend any event that he needed to no matter the time of the day. They now have a nurse that comes to the house almost everyday. There is no doubt this little miracle is the son of Soldier. The main reason I tell this story is what the Army has made possible. Without the Army they would be in an ocean of debt. The health care has made it so his parents can focus all their love on their son and not have to be burdened with worries of how they would pay for the states best care. Thank you Tricare and The Army for this.
Happy Veterans Day to all and I hope you felt as appreciated and as loved as I have today.
