There’s a note going around Facebook that allows the user to write about 25 facts about themselves. I believe this would make a great blog. At the very least, it makes me sound less boring. 1. I read the New York Times as I eat breakfast, watch CNN as I get ready for the day, and listen to NPR while driving to work. I feel it’s so important to know what’s going on not only in my community but also in the world; that and I am a huge nerd. 2. I am very...read more

As I sat at my desk at work today and sipped my coffee, my mind went back the memories of AIT. I thought about going on break from the classroom and meeting up with all my Blue Falcon buddies for a few minutes. I remembered how we would congregate together, taking jabs at one another but all in good fun. I remember standing out on the patio area and looking at the mountains to the right of us and across the valley to the left. I can’t help but smile to myself...read more

I wrote this for my little brother who leaves for basic training in May but I thought it might be a good blog entry as well, especially for those that are thinking about joining the Army and have questions about basic training. Taylor- When I went through basic training, I had no idea what to expect. Although you will be at Fort Lost-in-the-Woods (as it is so fondly referred to), and it will be different than where I went to basic training (Fort Jackson), I hope these hard learned...read more

For the first time in a long, really long, time I am truly happy. Perhaps it’s because I have more responsibility than I’ve ever had before. Maybe it’s because I live in warmer climate. It may be due to the fact that guys actually open the door for me down here. Whatever the case, I can’t help but smile. I may wake up at 0430 every morning but I love it. I feel like I am getting a head start before many of my peers. I may have a...read more

It’s a new year and a new beginning for me. I have lived in Houston for almost two weeks now and love it. I really and truly feel strongly that this is where I am supposed to be right now. My new apartment is very nice! It’s my first real “adult” apartment…meaning I can actually decorate because I have money to do so instead of spending all my money on textbooks. My roommate is so similar to myself that it’s slightly scary at times. Our shared love of...read more

I'm officially done with my undergraduate career. I took my last final at 1300 today. As I walked out the door of the College of Business Administration for the last time, I had to sigh with relief. The moment was very bittersweet. I love going to school much more than the average college student. Something about buying new books, taking new classes, learning new information, it all just excites me. Now I'm done. I arrived home after my last final exam and plopped down on the couch....read more

I am no longer a lower enlisted soldier! Today I was promoted to the grade of E5 or SGT. HOOAH! Although it has only been less than two years since I went to basic training as PFC, I have tried to perform to the best of my abilities at every task given to me. It's finally paid off! Two promotions in less than two years. Hopefully I will be wearing a butter bar on my uniform by May...

I got a job! A real job! Like as in an actual salaried job after I graduate next month!!! I will be a participant in the Next Generation Program at National Oilwell Varco in Houston, Texas! I start 05 Jan...meaning I have between now and then to find a place to live, move out of my current townhouse, finish up all my projects, papers, and exams and graduate on 20 Dec. Yep, I'm stressed but in a good way. I have my board interview on Wednesday for my direct commission! Wish me...read more

Me with SPC Powell and SGT Allen out and about in Osan on our afternoon off. I went on an excursion to South Korea for Annual Training this year. Besides coming down with Bronchitis for almost the entire two weeks, it wasn't that bad and offered a great brush up on my MI skills. I also got the opportunity to work with some awesome active duty soldiers, an afternoon to poke around Seoul (where I was stationed), and the chance to sample some very tasty Korean cuisine. In the...read more
