A Hooah to the Intelligence Community

My boyfriend, Mark, sent me this article: www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx

In a nutshell, it is President Obama thanking the Intelligence community, and specifically Counterintelligence, for their due diligence. Being in Intel means "performing the first task of the Army: to find, know, and never lose the enemy." (See the Military Intelligence Soldier's Creed www.dami.army.pentagon.mil/pub/creed/creed.html)

I take great pride in my MOS and being an Intelligence Officer. Like every single soldier, I constantly seek to improve upon my skillset and enjoy being part of a certain community. It's for statements like what I have quoted below that I look forward to specializing in Counterintelligence.

“Few Americans know about the work that you do, and this is how it should be,” he said. “Your assignments require it, and obviously, you didn't go into this line of work for the fame and glory or the glare of the spotlight. You're in it to serve and protect. "

Hooah to my battles in Intel for always being "the silent warrior of the Army team."

I just want to thank you for writing these blogs. I randomly found your writings on the internet, and I cant stop reading. I am currently 22 and have been thinking about the army since I was a kid. For one reason or another I still havent enlisted but I am currently, seriously thinking about it again. My biggest problem is that I havent been able to take the plunge. I've talked to recruiters, talked to enlisted friends of mine, but still cant do it. The biggest reasons i guess is because I dislike commitment and am scared of the unknown. I have a whole lot of pros and only 2 cons....should be an easy decision, but its seems so massive. Anyways, I just wanted you to know that your writing...exspecially the one about basic...has seriously helped motivate me. I dont know you, but you have definetly helped me. So thank you. P.S and if i do enlist....i'll be thanking you again for helping me take that leap.

The reason behind my blog is to give an honest, frank perspective on being in the Army. To know that you find my writing helpful means that I am meeting what I set out to do. And hooah to you! Joining the Army IS a massive decision and not one to be taken lightly. I'm proud to hear that you are not making a snap decision but are instead weighing how such a decision will affect your life. I always state that joining the Army was the best decision I ever made and I sincerely mean that. It changed my life for the better but that's because I make it that way. Stay motivated about it all! Best of luck to you and your future. I am happy to help in any way I can. Hooah!

Hello Kayley:

Does the US Army recommend/train their Soldiers (who are Military Intelligence) to limit their communication with their immediate family (mom/dad) ??? Is this part of their training??? I would love to know the answer to this question because it will answer many questions I have. I need your help and I truly thank you for your attention to my question. Hope to hear from you soon.

That's a great question, Sonia! Communication is limited in particular circumstances such as certain aspects of training are classified and cannot be shared with anyone. Classified information and training is just that, classified.

I personally have never been told to limit my communication with my immediate family. Yes, there are times when I may want to speak to them but cannot because I'm out in the field but once again, this cannot be helped as this is part of training. I hope this helps answer your question!
