Drill weekend! Hooah!
February 2, 2008
Let me explain that my unit is disbanding, meaning that it will be gone by 01 SEPT of this year. Every drill there is less of us and less things for us to do. I wish I had something exciting to write about but I don’t.
Here’s what I did: checked for summer training for my MOS, mopped the floors, went to a Super Bowl safety briefing, decorated the drill hall for a unit homecoming, and took out the trash.
Following drills hold more promise…APFT (physical fitness test, which I love!), going to the range to re-qualify on the M16 and the 9mm, battalion FTX (field training exercise), etc. I attribute it to being a slow month and the middle of a frigid Nebraska winter.
Don’t get me wrong and think the Army Reserves is boring and not worth it; quite the opposite actually. Many of my friends who are in the Reserves in other units are either deployed, preparing to deploy, or train extensively in warrior tasks and drills.
It just so happens that my unit is going away and these are the circumstances that are taking place. Look forward to hearing what I report back about the APFT…it should better than knowing that I can mop floors.
I did gather some pictures from drill. The wind is rather intense in the Great Plains and blew over the “smoke shack.” Although I do not smoke (How would I ever improve my run time?!), several of the male soldiers found it their mission for set the beloved “smoke shack” upright again.

Both pictures were taken mere moments before the thing went flying in the air and sending all the soldiers running for cover.
Another photo is of my battle buddy SPC Shipman holding a sleeping bag, not his own mind you but an NCOs. One reason to love being lower enlisted at times. I found it comical.

Another picture is of me and some of my battle buddies; we enjoy sharing stories about our basic training experiences and tales of our drill sergeants’ punishment techniques when we screwed up.

Another picture is of the unit my building is located in. We are really fortunate to have this nice of a facility; everything is practically brand new!
