I am a Varsity Scout leader, and this past week I took my boys down to Pamlico Sea Base in North Carolina for a week of sea kyaking.  The boys had fun and the worst thing that happened were sunburns, bug bites, and blisters.  Everyone came back alive :)

When I became involved with scouts, I was pleasantly suprised that the Army has a regulation that allows permissive TDY (free time off for an approved activity without using vacation time) for scouting events.
