Clinic update

July 25, 2010

You may have noticed I haven't put up as much about things we did in the clinic - it's because now that I'm there everyday I don't think as much about getting pictures of things that come along.  Also it is because it seems like by the time I get patients seen and records written up - it's time to go.  So here are some cases I saw last week.

We frequently see Soldiers who are coming through mobilizing or demobilizing from assignments.  This was a crown I saw in one of these Soldiers.  It had been done by a civilian dentist.  I was astonished by the amount of pits, divots, and black corrosion (on the other side).  The crown must have been made of a poor quality of metal, or they could have had issues when they cast the gold.  It made me proud of the level of quality control we have in our dental labs.

It may be a little hard to picture what you are looking at.  This is the lower left back tooth.  The back 1/4 of the tooth had sheared off vertically down to the levels of the gums.  So the procedure for this tooth was for a crown.

This is a picture of the tooth after it has been trimmed down for the crown.  There was a cavity present on the side that had sheared off, so it was a little tricky getting that area incorperated into the preparation.

Impressions of the tooth.

Temporary crown in place.  Fortunately we have 2 lab technicians, so they will begin making the crown for him and it will be ready in a matter a just a few weeks.
