Clinic update and Oral Pathology
October 23, 2009
Yesterday I was in the clinic. As I have mentioned before it is amazing the types of things that I see - even when I am in on a limited basis.
In the clinic I had some cases from sick call and an exam that we also worked into our schedule. Here are pictures for what was sent to us.

This lesion was associated with a tooth that needed a root canal. It had 2 floppy lobes that hung down, and puss was coming out of the center when you pushed. Results came back as pyogenic granuloma. We started a root canal on this tooth and took a biopsy of the growth.

This lesion was a little more concerning. I took a large biopsy of this and sent it in to the oral pathologist as a rushed case. The lesion was white/red and about 2.5-3 cm long and 1 cm wide. It had an ulcerated type sore in the middle. The patient thought it had been around for about a year.
I contacted our oral pathologist about this second case and was able to send him this picture and talk to him about the patient. Results came back as erosive lichen planus.
By the end of the day we had done:
Extracted 3 teeth on 3 patients, 1 dry socket, 2 biopsies (1 with a pulpectemy), prepped a 3 unit bridge, and delivered an all-ceramic crown.
