Tour of Ft. Belvoir

December 17, 2008

Let’s show you a few things around the base. I had taken these pictures the day before my son was born – then things got crazy and I never posted them. Almost all bases will have the following locations – they just might not be the same size.

This is Dewitt Army Hospital at Ft. Belvoir. I was told by one of the officers that work there that it is the oldest Army Hospital still in use (Don’t worry it has been renovated on the inside).

This was an architectural rendering of the new hospital – although I think they must have changed plans – because more recent drawings look nothing like this – or maybe I pulled off the wrong picture from the web.

The new hospital has 2 of these curved roofs. New building projects in the Army are all about “going green”. These new roofs will be able to collect water and store it for use in sprinkler systems.

This is a picture of the Auto Craft Center. You can rent a hydraulic lift and lots of cool tools for a fraction of the cost that you would have to pay if you took it to a garage. They even have technicians that will walk you through some of the repairs. I have replaced brakes and CV boots on my car here.

Picture of the commissary (grocery store). About the same size as any large chain grocery store. Some items are priced well below similar items at other stores – others are similar. All in all a good deal if you are close to it – but nothing to make regular trips to if you live farther away.
