Influencers of America's youth tour Fort Benning to learn just what it means to be Army Strong

From Minn., North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Moline, Illinois high school and college educators, along with other influencers of America’s youth, will have the opportunity to observe just what it means to be “Army Strong,” as they tour Fort Benning, Georgia on Wed. and Thurs., July 28 and 29. - The tour is hosted by the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Minneapolis and supported by the Fort Benning community relations office. On Wed. morning the group will visit a reception battalion, observe new Soldiers learning combative skills, followed by eating lunch with basic trainees. In the afternoon the influencers will be led by a drill sergeant who will take them on a tour of basic training barracks and provide an overview of a trainees’ average day. Then it’s off to the confidence course and an overview of family community services and then some hands-on weapons systems simulators. - The second day of the tour includes demonstrations of a Stryker and Bradley fighting vehicles, observations of parachute riggers, participation in learning to jump from a 34-foot training tower, watching Soldiers jump from a C130 airplane and finally a guided tour of the National Infantry Museum (www.nationalinfantrymuseum.com). - Each evening we’ll be interviewing the influencers to share what they’ve learned and discover their changed perspectives of just what it means to be “Army Strong.”
