New York area clarinetist Sam Kaestner has been a member of the West Point Band since 2002. Since joining the band, he has performed with the New York Philharmonic in Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, at the Dallas Symphony’s Meyerson Symphony Hall, as well as at other venues throughout the country. I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my colleagues this week, Staff Sergeant Jeff Prosperie. He is a really great guy with an interesting background. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did! Staff Sergeant Jeff Prosperie arrived to the West Point Band as a member of the Hellcats in December of 2006. In almost every field there are ways to poke fun of your colleagues in an innocent way (anyone remember the episode of Seinfeld where they make fun of podiatrists not being "real" doctors?). We have this too in the band, and the easiest instrument to make fun of (in my opinion) is the saxophone. Lunch with Grammy Award winner and West Point Band member Brandie Lane

This past Tuesday, I went to lunch with our publicity specialist, Chrissy Clark, and our GRAMMY AWARD WINNING sound engineer, Brandie Lane! We all were working that morning for the Young People’s Concert that the West Point Band hosts annually. I played in the Concert Band and also with Quintette 7, Chrissy took photos of the performance and talked to the kids, and Brandie ran the sound.
