  • So There is More to Social Media than Facebook? Apparently So! And the Army is Getting it Right.

I think it’s fairly easy to see that the Army uses tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and ArmyStrongStories.com to help interact with potential recruits and help educate the everyday citizen of our country. I have come to see firsthand that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Army and how it uses social media in a variety of ways, most notably to reach potential recruits. The Army has leveraged these tools in garrison, operational environments, and...read more

  • Active Duty to Reserve Duty Part Deux... Tips

    By: Staff Sergeant Levi Peffer

It’s been quite a while since I’ve blogged and life has changed quite a bit since then. Late last spring I left Active Duty (for the second time) and transitioned into an Army Reserve position near my hometown. My time at Fort Benning will definitely be looked back upon as one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of my life. I made a lot of great friends, accomplished many goals, and hope that I trained a Soldier or two to standard while I was...read more

Well, today I am going to learn a little bit about the "war on two fronts" in New Orleans. I sure am glad I have this amazing app so I can blog about it on the go! Whoever came up with this app deserves a pat on the back or a pay raise!

The Army has sent me a lot of places… some are nice, some are not so nice. I’d list London, Chicago, and Charlotte as some of the nicer cities I’ve seen. I’m currently in San Antonio, TX working to promote the Army Strong message at the Army All-American Bowl. I’ll be completely honest, San Antonio (or the parts I’ve seen) has not been the most impressive in terms of beauty or upkeep. At first sight I definitely dismissed the city...read more

  • All-American Push up contest video. Army beats Players at AAB

So today was the first day of actual work here in San Antonio, TX in support of the All-American Bowl. I really had no clue how large and elaborate of an event this would be here. The Army basically finds what amounts to 4 and 5 star recruits in football to come play in a game in San Antonio to reward them for all their accomplishments and introduce them to Soldiers and vice versa. I didn’t realize that the Army brought down a hometown hero for every player that is here...read more

  • Duluth MN and respect for the cold! Where is my jacket?

    December 3, 2010

How the heck do Soldiers operate in places like Alaska? After working for a few days in MN I’m really starting to wonder how you do things like jump out of airplanes, shoot rifles, land navigate, or road march in sub-zero weather. I definitely have a new found respect for Soldiers assigned in cold weather climates, and appreciate being in Georgia and North Carolina for the majority of my career so far. Yes, I do complain about the cold a lot, but I have enjoyed my time...read more

  • Minneapolis, The Indoor City

Arrived late today to Minneapolis, Minnesota for a week of touring the great white north! Today was a travel day so was fairly uneventful, minus the mishap at the airport. Boarding went well until there was a faint smell of jet fuel in the cabin! After unloading and a 90 minute delay, Delta claimed to fix the leak. I think they probably used duct tape and febreeze and called it good. Either way, landed safely in Minneapolis. The airport is much...read more

  • Soldiering on deep into enemy territory and I am scared

“I am a soldier, I fight where I am told, and win where I fight.” These words were said by the great General Patton about battle when he was serving in the Army. Well recently I had to use these words as inspiration for my latest assignment. Being a soldier that comes from the great state of Michigan I grew up a die-hard fan of the University of Michigan football team. I saw the great team of 1997 get the shaft and share a national championship, and I was also around when the...read more

  • AUSA Conference is a family reunion for Soldiers

Boy oh Boy does AUSA know how to put on a show! This past week I went with some friends to the AUSA conference in Washington DC and had a blast! I've been traveling a lot lately for work, so it was a nice break to be able to travel and not wake up early and work all day! AUSA is the Association of the United States Army. They are an organization that helps soldiers in a lot of ways, from having scholarship foundations, to lobbying congress on better housing for...read more

  • DS, Techies, and Adam Carolla in Vegas!

What a weekend in Las Vegas!!! When I joined the Army in 2000 I never would have imagined that an opportunity like this would have existed for me! This past weekend DS Short and myself worked at the blogworld convention in Las Vegas. I was pretty intimidated going in because I knew it wasn't the type of crowd I was used to engaging and attempting to get to do physical challenges. It didn't take long before my fears were put to rest by watching all these...read more
