Army ROTC and the Army Reserve: Job Search.

October 18, 2010

I’ve now begun my job search for after graduation and commissioning in May. I’ve been selected for service in the USAR, so I have to look for civilian employment as well. As a business major I’ll be looking for a job in marketing, HR management, or a management trainee position.

I’ve been working on networking in the Omaha and Colorado Springs areas. After commissioning I’ll be a platoon leader at Ft Carson with the 423rd Transportation Company. I hope to parlay my military leadership and management experience into a relevant civilian career.

I’ve been working with the Career Center here at Creighton University as well as with my mentor in our College of Business Administration, Mr. Tim Bastian. He is an economics instructor and former Air Force officer. I have received valuable guidance and hope to use it to my advantage to land a great career.

I’m looking also to use the Army PaYS (Partnership for Youth Success) program to help me stand out from other applicants. The PaYS program is a partnership between civilian employers recognizing military experience and the United States Army National Guard and Army Reserve.

I’m planning to enter graduate school to earn my MBA. Again, my military experience will help me stand out from other applicants. I desire very much to develop my professional knowledge and to enhance my skills to better serve Soldiers and the United States Army.

Make sure you check out the http://www.employerpartnership.org/ - I know many of these partners like Amazon.com would like to hire the military leaders.

Continue to Network all you can and get your resume out on WWW.linkedin.com - Amazon told me they and other companies find many of their young talent there.

Ask your ROTC department about a Gold Bar Recruiting Tour. If approved, you can work for 90 days. This might help if you are still looking for a job when you graduate.

    Hi Sir,

Good reading your blog. I am an Army CDT as well, and graduate in Spring. That being said, I was selected for service in the USAR. I was not expecting this, but I will make the best of it. However, I am not very acquainted with how the process works from here on out, and was wondering if I could contact you for further information.

My BTN is only 2 years old, and any info helps. Thanks!
