Closing the semester: Army ROTC.

December 2, 2010

Two weeks until the fall semester is over. Six months until I am commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Army Reserve as a transportation officer (88A).

The semester’s gone quite fast as I’ve been very busy with ROTC, class work, as well as extracurriculars. I’ve worked hard to develop a balance between my roles as a Creighton yell leader, squad tactical officer, and management student. It’s not been an easy road, but it has brought a lot of growth. Each day I am thankful for the opportunities I’ve been afforded as a university student and an Army cadet. It is not a responsibility given lightly. It is not a right, but a privilege. It is my responsibility as an American to take up this cause and to serve the nation as a commissioned officer and to lead combat troops.

We had our monthly APFT this morning at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebr., home of US Strategic Command. Today the MS IIIs and IVs took the fitness test while tomorrow will be the MS Is and IIs. It’s not easy to evaluate your classmates and to be the judge of their abilities, but it is a necessary part of the pre-commissioning development we undergo. Our officers and NCOs are never far away to issue corrections to us and to the cadets we evaluate. Their guidance has been invaluable to our development as cadets, future officers, and as leaders.

Just ordered our Army Service Uniforms for commissioning a few weeks back. It’s exciting to know that we’re getting so close to earning our lieutenant bars and taking command of such great men and women, the Soldiers of America’s Army.
