Why Join ROTC?
May 26, 2010
Much is expected of those to whom much is given.
As an American, it is my duty to serve the nation that has given me so many opportunities. The warriors, statesmen, scholars, business- and tradesmen that have come before me made sacrifices to ensure continued success.
America cannot reach its potential without constant sacrifices made by its citizenry. It is vital for me to give back for all that has been given to me. My country demands this of me.
As an Army officer, I will be tasked with leading America’s most precious and important resource—its sons and daughters. These Soldiers, great Americans all, require competent and proficient leadership to reach their collective potential. As warriors, they are prepared to make the final sacrifice. As a military leader, I will be granted the eminent responsibility of leading and taking care of these men and women.
The United States Army, and especially its officer-commissioning sources (ROTC, OCS, and USMA), is a crucible for evaluating and developing leadership. The scholar-warriors of these institutions must learn and apply standards and qualities of leadership to ensure mission fulfillment.
As an Army cadet, I will soon earn my commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. As a Soldier, I must continually be aware of what is expected of me, and to never forget what is truly at stake—the well being, success, and development of America’s sons and daughters.
